Which Beyoncé song was featured in the 2006 film Dreamgirls?

“Listen” was the Beyoncé song featured in the 2006 film Dreamgirls.

Beyoncé recorded “Listen” for the film’s soundtrack and performed it as Deena Jones, the fictional singer she portrays in Dreamgirls. The song was written by Beyoncé, Scott Cutler, Anne Preven, and Henry Krieger, with production by The Underdogs. It appears as Deena begins asserting her independence within the film’s dramatic story.

“Listen” was released as a single in December 2006 and became one of Beyoncé’s notable ballads. Dreamgirls also stars Jamie Foxx, Jennifer Hudson, Eddie Murphy, and Anika Noni Rose. The movie was inspired by the Broadway musical of the same name, which in turn draws loosely on the history of Motown-era girl groups. A common mix-up is attributing every prominent Dreamgirls song to Beyoncé; Jennifer Hudson’s character Effie sings “And I Am Telling You I’m Not Going,” while “Listen” belongs to Deena and Beyoncé.
