The line “I got hot sauce in my bag, swag” appears in Beyoncé’s song “Formation.”
“Formation” was released in 2016 and became the lead single from Lemonade. The lyric is delivered in the song’s opening verse and refers to hot sauce as a detail associated with Beyoncé’s Southern and Black cultural identity. The phrase quickly became one of the track’s most quoted lines.
The song was written by Beyoncé, Swae Lee, Khalif Brown, Asheton Hogan, Michael L. Williams II, and others, and it was produced by Mike WiLL Made-It, Pluss, and A+. Its musical foundation includes a prominent low-end beat and layered vocal production.
The line is often mistakenly attributed to “Sorry” because both songs appear on Lemonade and were widely discussed together. “Formation,” however, is the track containing the hot-sauce lyric and the repeated refrain about being “always on the top.”
