“Crazy in Love” became Beyoncé’s first U.S. Billboard Hot 100 number-one single as a lead artist.
Released in 2003 as the lead single from her debut solo album, Dangerously in Love, the song features rapper Jay-Z and prominently samples the horn riff from The Chi-Lites’ 1970 song “Are You My Woman (Tell Me So).” Its energetic production and instantly recognizable brass arrangement helped establish Beyoncé as a major solo performer after Destiny’s Child.
The song reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100 and remained there for eight weeks. It also topped charts in the United Kingdom and Ireland. A common mix-up is “Baby Boy,” another Dangerously in Love single that also reached number one in the United States; however, “Crazy in Love” was Beyoncé’s first U.S. chart-topper as a lead artist.
The track won two Grammy Awards at the 2004 ceremony, including Best R&B Song and Best Rap/Sung Collaboration.
