“Break My Soul” became Beyoncé’s first solo number-one on the Billboard Hot 100 in 2022.
The song was released on June 20, 2022, as the lead single from Renaissance. It combines house music, dance-pop, and R&B, and includes vocals from rapper Big Freedia. The track also incorporates elements of Robin S.’s 1993 song “Show Me Love” and The-Dream’s “Explode.”
“Break My Soul” reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100 in August 2022. The achievement made it Beyoncé’s eighth number-one single as a solo artist and her first since “Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It)” in 2008.
Beyoncé had previously reached number one through collaborations, including “Perfect Duet” with Ed Sheeran. That distinction matters: “Break My Soul” was her first solo-billed number-one since the earlier Destiny’s Child era had ended.
