“Break My Soul” is the Beyoncé single from Renaissance that was co-written with Jay-Z and became a 2022 hit.
The song was released on June 20, 2022, as the lead single from Renaissance. Beyoncé co-wrote it with Jay-Z, Terius “The-Dream” Nash, Christopher Stewart, Freddie Ross, and several other credited writers. The production incorporates material from Robin S.’s 1993 house song “Show Me Love” and “Explode” by Big Freedia.
“Break My Soul” became Beyoncé’s eighth solo number-one single on the Billboard Hot 100 and helped return house-influenced dance music to the center of mainstream pop conversation. Its lyrics focus on resilience, release, and reclaiming personal energy.
The track is sometimes confused with “Cuff It,” another Renaissance song that became a major hit. However, “Break My Soul” is specifically the album’s lead single and the song associated with the first public introduction of the Renaissance era.
