The line “Okay ladies, now let’s get in formation” appears in Beyoncé’s single “Formation.”
“Formation” was released on February 6, 2016, as a surprise single one day before Beyoncé performed at Super Bowl 50. It was written by Beyoncé, Mike WiLL Made-It, Swae Lee, and others, and its production incorporates elements of bounce music associated with New Orleans.
The song and its video celebrate Black identity, Southern culture, family history, and style while also addressing police violence and racial inequality. The video includes references to Hurricane Katrina and New Orleans, and its imagery became central to public discussions of Beyoncé’s political and cultural expression.
“Formation” later appeared on Lemonade. The title is sometimes confused with “Run the World (Girls),” another Beyoncé song centered on women’s power, but the quoted lyric belongs specifically to “Formation,” whose refrain helped make the word a cultural catchphrase.
