Beyoncé’s 2018 Coachella performance became widely known as “Beychella.”
She headlined the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival in April 2018, becoming the first Black woman to headline the festival. The performance featured a large band, marching-band arrangements, dancers, and a reunion appearance by Destiny’s Child.
The festival set was filmed and released by Netflix in 2019 as Homecoming: A Film by Beyoncé. A companion live album, Homecoming: The Live Album, was released at the same time.
“Beychella” is a media nickname rather than the official name of a tour or album. The performance drew heavily on historically Black colleges and universities, especially their marching-band traditions, Greek-letter organizations, and homecoming culture.
