Which Beyoncé film role was the character Deena Jones?

Beyoncé played Deena Jones in the 2006 film Dreamgirls. Deena is a member of the fictional singing group the Dreams and becomes its lead singer as the group's career develops.

Dreamgirls was directed by Bill Condon and adapted from the Broadway musical of the same name. Its story is loosely inspired by the history of Motown and the rise of groups such as the Supremes, although the characters and plot are fictionalized.

The film starred Jamie Foxx, Beyoncé, Eddie Murphy, Jennifer Hudson, and Anika Noni Rose. Beyoncé's character sings songs including “Listen,” a prominent solo number written especially for the film adaptation.

A common mix-up is associating Beyoncé's film role with Nala in The Lion King. Beyoncé voiced Nala in the 2019 remake, but Deena Jones is the character she portrayed in Dreamgirls, her major 2006 musical-drama role.
