Beyoncé voiced Queen Tara in the 2013 animated film Epic.
Epic is a computer-animated fantasy adventure film directed by Chris Wedge and produced by Blue Sky Studios. It follows a teenage girl named Mary Katherine, or M.K., who is magically reduced in size and drawn into a hidden forest world. Beyoncé provides the voice of Queen Tara, a powerful leader of the Leafmen’s kingdom.
The film’s voice cast also includes Amanda Seyfried, Josh Hutcherson, Colin Farrell, Christoph Waltz, and Aziz Ansari. Beyoncé contributed the song “Rise Up” to the film’s soundtrack, giving the project an additional connection to her music career.
Epic is different from Beyoncé’s live-action acting roles in Austin Powers in Goldmember, Dreamgirls, and Obsessed. It is also separate from The Lion King, in which she voiced Nala in the 2019 remake. Queen Tara is therefore a character from Epic, not Nala.
