Dreamgirls earned Beyoncé a 2007 Golden Globe nomination for Best Original Song.
The 2006 musical film Dreamgirls featured Beyoncé as Deena Jones, a singer whose fictional group rises to fame in the 1960s. The movie was loosely inspired by the history of Motown and the Supremes, although its characters and plot are not a direct biography of that group. Beyoncé performed several songs in the film, including “Listen,” which was nominated for the Golden Globe for Best Original Song.
The song was written by Beyoncé, Scott Cutler, and Anne Preven. It appears during a pivotal moment when Deena asserts her independence and emotional identity. “Listen” also received an Academy Award nomination for Best Original Song.
Beyoncé did not win the Golden Globe in that category; the award went to “The Song of the Heart” from Happy Feet. Dreamgirls nevertheless received multiple Golden Globe wins, including Best Motion Picture—Musical or Comedy and acting awards for Jennifer Hudson and Eddie Murphy.
