Which Beyoncé character did she play in the film Dreamgirls?

In the film Dreamgirls, Beyoncé played the character Deena Jones.

Dreamgirls, released in 2006, is a musical drama directed by Bill Condon. It follows the rise of a fictional singing group called the Dreams and draws inspiration from the history of Motown and groups such as the Supremes. Beyoncé portrays Deena, who becomes the group’s lead singer and later a major star.

Jennifer Hudson played Effie White, the original lead singer whose professional and personal struggles drive much of the story. Anika Noni Rose played Lorrell Robinson, while Jamie Foxx played music executive Curtis Taylor Jr.

Deena Jones is a fictional character, not a direct portrait officially identified as one real performer. Beyoncé’s role required both acting and musical performance, and the film received multiple Academy Award nominations. Jennifer Hudson won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress for her performance as Effie.
