“Crazy in Love” is the Beyoncé and Jay-Z song that opens with the lyric “I look and stare so deep in your eyes.”
The song was released in 2003 as the lead single from Beyoncé’s debut solo album, Dangerously in Love. It was produced by Rich Harrison and Beyoncé, with Jay-Z contributing a rap verse. Its prominent horn sample comes from the Chi-Lites’ 1970 song “Are You My Woman (Tell Me So).”
“Crazy in Love” became Beyoncé’s first solo number-one single on the Billboard Hot 100. The accompanying video, directed by Jake Nava, features the choreography and visual style that helped make the song a defining early solo hit.
It is often confused with “Drunk in Love,” another Beyoncé and Jay-Z collaboration released a decade later. The two songs share the couple’s vocals and romantic theme, but “Crazy in Love” belongs to Beyoncé’s 2003 debut era.
