Beyoncé’s Lemonade won the 2017 Grammy Award for Best Urban Contemporary Album.
Lemonade was released in April 2016 as Beyoncé’s sixth studio album. It is a visual album accompanied by a film that premiered on HBO. The project combines R&B, pop, rock, country, blues, reggae, and hip-hop influences, and its songs are organized around themes including love, betrayal, anger, reconciliation, and identity.
At the 59th Annual Grammy Awards in February 2017, Lemonade won Best Urban Contemporary Album. Beyoncé also received awards for Best Music Film for the Lemonade film and Best Music Video for “Formation.” The album was nominated for Album of the Year, but Adele’s 25 won that category.
Beyoncé, released in 2013, won the same Grammy category at the 57th ceremony. That overlap can cause confusion, but the 2017 winner was Lemonade. Everything Is Love, Beyoncé’s collaborative album with Jay-Z, was released in 2018 and was not the answer.
