Renaissance was the first release in Beyoncé’s three-act project and arrived in 2022.
Beyoncé released Renaissance on July 29, 2022. She described it as the first act of a planned three-act project, making the album’s position part of its broader artistic design rather than simply a standalone release.
The record draws heavily on dance, house, disco, funk, and electronic music. Its lead single, “Break My Soul,” reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100. Renaissance also includes “Alien Superstar,” “Cuff It,” and “Virgo’s Groove.”
The album won the Grammy Award for Best Dance/Electronic Music Album in 2023. It is distinct from Cowboy Carter, the country- and Americana-influenced second act released in 2024, and from the 2023 concert film documenting the Renaissance World Tour.
