Renaissance was Beyoncé’s album that debuted at number one in 2022.
Released on July 29, 2022, Renaissance is Beyoncé’s seventh studio album and the first act in a planned three-act project. It debuted at number one on the US Billboard 200, making Beyoncé the first woman to have her first seven solo studio albums debut at the top of that chart. The album’s lead single was “Break My Soul.”
Renaissance draws heavily on dance, house, disco, and club music, with samples and interpolations connecting it to earlier Black and LGBTQ club traditions. Its chart achievement is sometimes confused with the album’s Grammy history or with Lemonade’s visual-album format. Renaissance was released as a conventional studio album initially, although its songs were part of a larger artistic plan.
