Renaissance was released in 2022 as the first act of Beyoncé’s planned trilogy.
The album, officially styled Renaissance, was released on July 29, 2022. It is Beyoncé’s seventh studio album and centers on dance, house, disco, funk, and electronic music. The record was preceded by “Break My Soul,” which became her eighth solo number-one single on the Billboard Hot 100.
Renaissance includes samples and interpolations connected to Black and queer dance-music history. Its credits include contributions from artists such as Jay-Z, Grace Jones, Beam, and Tems, while numerous producers and songwriters helped shape its club-oriented sound. Beyoncé described the project as “Act I” of a three-act project.
The album won the Grammy Award for Best Dance/Electronic Music Album at the 2023 ceremony. It is sometimes confused with the full trilogy, but Renaissance is specifically the first act; later acts are separate releases rather than alternate titles for the same album.
