Lemonade was Beyoncé’s 2016 album built around a visual film of the same name.
Beyoncé released Lemonade on April 23, 2016, through Parkwood Entertainment and Columbia Records. It followed her 2013 self-titled visual album and continued her practice of combining recorded music with carefully constructed imagery.
The album was accompanied by Lemonade, a one-hour film broadcast on HBO. Its songs and visuals explore themes including betrayal, grief, anger, forgiveness, family, Black identity, and resilience. The project draws on multiple musical styles, including R&B, rock, country, blues, and hip-hop.
Lemonade received widespread critical acclaim and earned a Grammy nomination for Album of the Year. Its track “Formation” also became one of Beyoncé’s most discussed songs. The album should not be confused with Everything Is Love, Beyoncé’s 2018 collaborative album with Jay-Z.
