B’Day was named after Beyoncé’s 25th birthday.
B’Day is Beyoncé’s second solo studio album, released on September 4, 2006, the date of her 25th birthday. The title combines the letter B from Beyoncé with “birthday,” creating a short name that also emphasizes the album’s personal timing.
The album was recorded in a brief, intensive period after Beyoncé completed filming Dreamgirls. Its songs include “Déjà Vu,” featuring Jay-Z, “Irreplaceable,” and “Beautiful Liar,” a later duet with Shakira connected to the deluxe edition.
B’Day became a major commercial success and debuted at number one on the Billboard 200. The title is sometimes written without the apostrophe or mistaken for an informal nickname, but B’Day is the album’s official stylized title. It is also distinct from Beyoncé’s 2003 debut album Dangerously in Love and her later self-titled 2013 album.
