Lemonade is the Beyoncé album built around a visual story of marriage, betrayal, and Black womanhood.
Released in 2016, Lemonade is Beyoncé’s sixth studio album and a multimedia project. Its music was accompanied by a one-hour film that premiered on HBO. The project moves through themes often described with chapter titles including intuition, denial, anger, apathy, accountability, reform, forgiveness, hope, and redemption.
The album draws on R&B, rock, country, blues, reggae, and hip-hop. It includes “Formation,” “Sorry,” “Hold Up,” and “Daddy Lessons,” and features contributions from artists including Jack White, Kendrick Lamar, The Weeknd, and James Blake.
Lemonade is sometimes confused with Beyoncé, her 2013 visual album. Both use visual storytelling, but Lemonade was the 2016 project centered on this distinct emotional and cultural narrative.
