Beyoncé’s 2016 album featuring “Formation” and “Hold Up” is Lemonade.
Released on April 23, 2016, Lemonade was accompanied by a one-hour visual album broadcast on HBO. Its music moves through R&B, rock, country, blues, reggae, and hip-hop, while its lyrics explore identity, family, betrayal, healing, and Black cultural history.
The album became one of Beyoncé’s most critically acclaimed projects. “Formation” was released as its lead single before the album, while “Hold Up” appeared among its genre-spanning tracks. Lemonade is distinct from Renaissance, the dance-focused 2022 album that followed it.
