The album providing songs for Beyoncé’s 2019 project inspired by The Lion King was The Gift.
Beyoncé released The Lion King: The Gift on July 19, 2019, through Parkwood Entertainment and Columbia Records. She described it as a “companion” album to Disney’s 2019 remake of The Lion King, in which she voiced the adult Nala.
The Gift brings together African artists and international performers, including Wizkid, Shatta Wale, Major Lazer, and Kendrick Lamar. Its tracks include “Spirit,” “Bigger,” and “Brown Skin Girl.” The 2020 visual album Black Is King was built around music from The Gift, but Black Is King is a separate audiovisual project rather than the original companion album title. This distinction is a common source of confusion.
