Which Beyoncé album is linked to the visual film Black Is King?

The story behind the answer

Black Is King is linked to Beyoncé’s album The Lion King: The Gift.

The Lion King: The Gift is a soundtrack album curated by Beyoncé for the 2019 photorealistic remake of Disney’s The Lion King. It includes songs inspired by the film’s characters and themes, plus collaborations with artists from Africa and around the world. Beyoncé voiced Nala in the movie.

Black Is King is a 2020 visual album film written, directed and executive-produced by Beyoncé. It reinterprets the music from The Lion King: The Gift through dance, fashion, cinematography and stories centered on Black identity and heritage. Disney released the film on Disney+.

The project is sometimes mistakenly treated as a visual version of Lemonade because both combine music with film. Lemonade is a separate 2016 Beyoncé album and film project. Black Is King instead grows directly out of The Lion King: The Gift and its connection to Disney’s remake.
