Lemonade is Beyoncé’s visual album built around a 2016 film and accompanying music videos.
The album was released on April 23, 2016, after the premiere of its one-hour film on HBO. Its music moves through R&B, rock, country, blues, pop, and hip-hop, while its visual presentation draws on poetry, symbolism, Black history, and themes of identity, relationships, family, and resilience.
Lemonade includes songs such as “Formation,” “Sorry,” “Hold Up,” “Freedom,” and “All Night.” The project features guest appearances from artists including Kendrick Lamar, Jack White, The Weeknd, and James Blake. Its visual chapters were organized around thematic stages such as intuition, denial, anger, and hope.
People sometimes use “Lemonade” to mean only the album or only the film, but Beyoncé presented them as a connected audiovisual work. The album received widespread critical acclaim and won the Grammy for Best Urban Contemporary Album.
