Beyoncé’s album 4 includes the song “Run the World (Girls).”
The song was released as the lead single from 4 in 2011. It was written by Beyoncé, Terius “The-Dream” Nash, Adidja Palmer, Nick van de Wall, and Wesley Pentz, among others, and its production incorporates elements associated with Major Lazer’s “Pon de Floor.”
“Run the World (Girls)” became known for its forceful percussion, chant-like hook, and feminist theme. The music video was directed by Francis Lawrence and featured elaborate choreography and fashion-led imagery.
The album title is a frequent source of confusion because “4” is short and the song itself is often discussed independently. The track belongs to 4, not to Beyoncé’s self-titled 2013 visual album or to Dangerously in Love, her 2003 solo debut.
