Lemonade includes Beyoncé’s singles “Formation” and “Sorry.”
Released on April 23, 2016, Lemonade is Beyoncé’s sixth studio album. It was issued alongside a one-hour film on HBO, giving the project a strongly visual and narrative form. The album’s songs address betrayal, anger, grief, reconciliation, identity, family, and Black womanhood.
“Formation” became especially prominent for its references to Black Southern identity, police violence, Hurricane Katrina, and Beyoncé’s Houston roots. “Sorry” is one of the album’s most recognizable songs and helped make the phrase “Becky with the good hair” part of popular discussion.
Lemonade is often called a visual album, but it is also a conventional audio album that can be heard independently of the film. Its featured artists include Jack White, Kendrick Lamar, James Blake, and The Weeknd. The album won the Grammy for Best Urban Contemporary Album in 2017.
