Which Beyoncé album includes the hit single “Formation”?

Beyoncé’s album Lemonade includes the hit single “Formation.”

“Formation” was released as a standalone single on February 6, 2016, and later appeared on Lemonade. The song was written by Beyoncé, Swae Lee, and several collaborators, with production involving Mike WiLL Made-It. Its lyrics and video emphasize Black identity, Southern heritage, and cultural pride.

The video includes references to New Orleans, including imagery associated with Hurricane Katrina and the city’s Black communities. It also features Beyoncé’s daughter, Blue Ivy Carter, in a brief appearance. The song became a major cultural event before Lemonade’s full release.

Because “Formation” first appeared before the album’s surprise launch, some listeners remember it as a standalone release. Its album home, however, is Lemonade, which presents the song within a larger visual and musical narrative.
