Which Beyoncé album features the 2016 single “Formation”?

Beyoncé’s 2016 album Lemonade features the single “Formation.”

Lemonade was released on April 23, 2016, following the premiere of an hour-long film on HBO. The album combines R&B, pop, hip-hop, blues, rock, soul, and country influences. Its visual presentation and themes made it one of Beyoncé’s most discussed works.

“Formation” was released before the album and became its closing track. The song and video address Black identity, heritage, beauty, and social issues, while using imagery connected to New Orleans and the American South. Lemonade also includes “Sorry,” “Hold Up,” “Freedom,” and “All Night.”

The album debuted at number one on the US Billboard 200 and received a Grammy nomination for Album of the Year. It won Best Urban Contemporary Album. It is distinct from Beyoncé, the surprise visual album released in 2013, and Renaissance, released in 2022.
