Which Beyoncé album became the first album by a woman to win the Grammy for Best Dance/Electronic Music Album?

The story behind the answer

Beyoncé’s Renaissance became the first album by a woman to win the Grammy for Best Dance/Electronic Music Album.

Renaissance is Beyoncé’s seventh studio album and was released on July 29, 2022. Its sound draws heavily from house, disco, funk, dance-pop, and other club traditions. The album’s first single, “Break My Soul,” introduced its dance-oriented direction and reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100.

At the 65th Annual Grammy Awards in 2023, Renaissance won Best Dance/Electronic Music Album. The award helped mark the album’s importance in bringing Black queer club and dance-music traditions into a major mainstream pop release.

The album also earned Beyoncé several other Grammy wins at that ceremony, including Best Traditional R&B Performance for “Plastic Off the Sofa.” Renaissance is distinct from Cowboy Carter, her later country-influenced album, and from the self-titled visual album Beyoncé.
