Lemonade became Beyoncé’s sixth consecutive US Billboard 200 number-one album in 2016.
Beyoncé released Lemonade on April 23, 2016, through Parkwood Entertainment and Columbia Records. It followed her 2013 self-titled album and continued her use of visual storytelling, with the album presented alongside an hour-long film broadcast on HBO.
Lemonade debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 with 653,000 equivalent album units in its first week in the United States, according to Billboard reporting. It also made Beyoncé the first artist to have her first six studio albums debut at number one on that chart.
The album includes “Formation,” “Sorry,” “Hold Up,” and “All Night.” Its narrative is often discussed through themes of betrayal, identity, ancestry, anger, and reconciliation, but it is not the same release as the 2013 self-titled visual album.
