Renaissance became Beyoncé’s seventh consecutive number-one album on the Billboard 200 in 2022.
Released on July 29, 2022, Renaissance was Beyoncé’s seventh solo studio album. It opened at number one in the United States with the equivalent of more than 330,000 album units in its first week, according to Billboard reporting.
The album’s lead single, “Break My Soul,” became Beyoncé’s eighth solo number-one song on the Billboard Hot 100. Renaissance draws on house, disco, funk, dance, and Black queer club traditions, and it includes numerous credited samples and interpolations.
The record is sometimes described as “Act I,” because Beyoncé presented it as the first part of a planned trilogy. Its successor, Cowboy Carter, arrived in 2024 and explored country and Americana influences, making the two albums musically distinct.
