Which Beijing skyscraper was designed by Rem Koolhaas and Ole Scheeren?
Answer
CCTV Headquarters
Answer
CCTV Headquarters
The CCTV Headquarters in Beijing was designed by Rem Koolhaas and Ole Scheeren.
The building serves as the headquarters of China Central Television. Rather than using a conventional vertical tower, its design consists of two leaning high-rise sections joined by a dramatic cantilevered overhead structure, creating a continuous loop.
Construction began in 2004, and the main structure was completed in 2012. The unusual form required a complex structural frame that distributes forces through the building’s diagonal exterior grid, often called a diagrid.
The headquarters is sometimes nicknamed “the Pants” because of its outline, although its official name is CCTV Headquarters. It is part of Beijing’s central business district and should not be confused with the nearby China World Trade Center Tower III, a more conventional supertall office tower.
