Which bassist played on every track of Metallica's 1991 album Metallica?

The story behind the answer

Jason Newsted played bass on every track of Metallica's 1991 album Metallica.

Newsted had joined Metallica after the 1986 death of bassist Cliff Burton. He had already appeared on ...And Justice for All, but the bass was notably much more audible on The Black Album. That change was part of the record's fuller and more polished production.

The album credits list Newsted as the bassist, alongside James Hetfield on vocals and guitars, Lars Ulrich on drums, and Kirk Hammett on lead guitar. Newsted also contributed the main riff for “My Friend of Misery,” which was originally intended to be an instrumental.

The Black Album was Newsted's final Metallica studio album as a full-time member. He left the band in 2001, and Robert Trujillo joined in 2003. Cliff Burton, although central to Metallica's early history, did not play on this 1991 record.
