Which band replaced U2 as Glastonbury's Friday Pyramid headliner in 2010?

The story behind the answer

Which band replaced U2 as Glastonbury’s Friday Pyramid headliner in 2010? Gorillaz replaced U2.

U2 had been scheduled to headline the Pyramid Stage on Friday night at the 2010 festival. The band withdrew after frontman Bono suffered a back injury and required surgery, making the planned appearance impossible. Gorillaz were announced as the replacement the following day.

The substitute set was led by Damon Albarn’s virtual band, whose live performances combined electronic production, guest musicians and projected visuals. Gorillaz joined Muse and Stevie Wonder as the three main Pyramid Stage headliners for the 2010 edition.

The cancellation did not remove U2 entirely from the weekend’s story. The Edge later joined Muse on Saturday for a performance of U2’s “Where the Streets Have No Name,” helping make up for the band’s absence. The correct distinction is therefore between U2’s originally booked slot and Gorillaz’s actual Friday headline performance.
