Which band did Christine Perfect belong to before working with Fleetwood Mac?

The story behind the answer

Before working with Fleetwood Mac, Christine Perfect belonged to the British blues band Chicken Shack.

Perfect joined Chicken Shack in 1967 as a pianist, keyboard player and backing vocalist. The group, led by guitarist and singer Stan Webb, was part of the British blues boom and recorded for Blue Horizon, the same label associated with early Fleetwood Mac.

Her time with Chicken Shack established her as a blues performer. She sang lead on the band’s version of Etta James’s “I’d Rather Go Blind,” which became a notable UK success, and she won Melody Maker’s award for best female vocalist in 1969. She also appeared on Chicken Shack’s first two albums, including 40 Blue Fingers, Freshly Packed and Ready to Serve and O.K. Ken?.

Perfect left Chicken Shack in 1969 after marrying Fleetwood Mac bassist John McVie. She later joined Fleetwood Mac in 1970, initially contributing keyboards and vocals. The surname “McVie” therefore came after her Chicken Shack period; Christine Perfect is the name used in accounts of her earlier career.
