Which award did Tim Burton’s Sweeney Todd win for Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy?

Tim Burton’s Sweeney Todd won the Golden Globe Award for Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy.

The film received the prize at the 65th Golden Globe Awards in 2008. It adapts Stephen Sondheim’s stage musical about the vengeful barber Sweeney Todd and his partnership with Mrs. Lovett in Victorian London.

Johnny Depp won the Golden Globe for Best Actor in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy for playing Todd. The film was also nominated for several other major awards and won the Academy Award for Best Art Direction, now known as Best Production Design.

These awards are sometimes confused because the film received recognition from both the Golden Globes and the Oscars. Its Golden Globe victory was specifically in the motion-picture musical-or-comedy category, despite the story’s dark and violent Gothic subject matter.
