Which award did Beyoncé receive at the 2014 MTV Video Music Awards?

At the 2014 MTV Video Music Awards, Beyoncé received the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award. MTV gives this honor to artists whose work has made a major long-term impact on music videos and popular culture.

Beyoncé accepted the award after performing a medley of songs from her self-titled 2013 visual album. The performance incorporated material including “Mine,” “Haunted,” “Pretty Hurts,” “Drunk in Love,” and “Flawless,” and concluded with her husband Jay-Z and their daughter Blue Ivy joining her onstage.

The 2014 ceremony took place on August 24 at The Forum in Inglewood, California. Beyoncé also won several competitive awards that night, including Best Collaboration for “Drunk in Love.” The Vanguard honor is distinct from MTV’s Global Icon Award, which has been presented at other ceremonies.
