Which Australian peninsula separates Port Phillip from Western Port in Victoria?
Answer
Mornington Peninsula
Answer
Mornington Peninsula
The Mornington Peninsula separates Port Phillip from Western Port in the Australian state of Victoria.
It extends south and west from the mainland near Melbourne, creating the eastern side of Port Phillip Bay. Its coastline includes beaches, cliffs, vineyards and coastal villages, making the peninsula a major recreation and tourism region for metropolitan Melbourne.
The peninsula includes the Mornington Peninsula National Park and Point Nepean National Park. Point Nepean forms its western tip and guards the entrance to Port Phillip Bay opposite Point Lonsdale on the Bellarine Peninsula.
A common mix-up is the Bellarine Peninsula, which forms the opposite, western side of Port Phillip Bay. The Mornington Peninsula is east of the bay, while the Bellarine lies west of it.
