Which athlete won the women's 100 metres at the 1988 Summer Olympics in Seoul?

The story behind the answer

Florence Griffith-Joyner won the women's 100 metres at the 1988 Summer Olympics in Seoul.

Known as Flo-Jo, the American sprinter won the final in 10.54 seconds, an Olympic record at the time. She also won the 200 metres and ran on the victorious United States 4×100-metre relay team at Seoul.

Griffith-Joyner’s most famous individual performance came earlier in 1988, when she ran 10.49 seconds in the 100 metres at the United States Olympic trials. That mark remains the world record, although wind-measurement questions have surrounded the race for decades.

Her Olympic 100-metre title should not be confused with her world-record trial run. The Seoul final was a championship race, while the 10.49 performance occurred during qualification for the Olympic team.
