Which Summer Olympics first provided a purpose-built Olympic Village for competitors?
Answer
Los Angeles 1932
Answer
Los Angeles 1932
Los Angeles 1932 first provided a purpose-built Olympic Village for competitors.
The 1932 Summer Olympics introduced a dedicated residential complex in the Baldwin Hills area of Los Angeles. The village contained small houses for male athletes and included shared facilities such as dining, medical services and recreation areas.
The arrangement helped organize accommodation during the Games and became an important model for later Olympic planning. Female competitors were housed separately at a hotel, so the village was not yet the integrated arrangement familiar today.
Paris 1924 is sometimes cited in discussions of early Olympic accommodation because competitors were housed in a group of cabins known as the Olympic Village. However, Los Angeles 1932 is generally recognized as the first purpose-built Olympic Village in the modern sense. Later villages became larger, more centralized and designed for athletes of all genders.
