Usain Bolt became the first man to win the Olympic 100 metres at three consecutive Games.
He won in Beijing in 2008, London in 2012, and Rio de Janeiro in 2016. Bolt originally finished first in Beijing in 9.69 seconds, later adjusted to 9.63 seconds in London and 9.81 seconds in Rio.
Bolt’s 2008 relay gold medal was later revoked after teammate Nesta Carter tested positive for a prohibited substance. That ruling did not remove Bolt’s individual 100-metre title, making his three individual victories the landmark achievement.
Carl Lewis won Olympic 100-metre gold in 1984 and 1988, but he did not win the event in three consecutive Games. Bolt also won the Olympic 200 metres three times, from 2008 through 2016.
