Which Assassin's Creed protagonist is the master of the Assassin Brotherhood in Renaissance Italy?

The story behind the answer

Ezio Auditore is the Assassin's Creed protagonist who becomes a master of the Brotherhood in Renaissance Italy.

Ezio begins as a young Florentine nobleman in Assassin's Creed II, set largely in fifteenth-century Italy. After his family is destroyed by a political conspiracy, he is trained as an Assassin and pursues the people responsible while uncovering a larger Templar plot.

His story continues in Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood, where he leads the Assassins against the Borgia in Rome, and in Assassin's Creed: Revelations, which follows his journey to Constantinople and his connection to Altaïr's legacy. He also appears in the short film Embers.

Ezio is sometimes confused with Altaïr because both are major figures in the Brotherhood's history. Altaïr's story is set during the Third Crusade, whereas Ezio's principal trilogy spans Renaissance Italy and the early sixteenth century.
