Which Assassin's Creed II character becomes the central hero of the Italian Renaissance storyline?

The story behind the answer

Ezio Auditore becomes the central hero of Assassin's Creed II's Italian Renaissance storyline.

Ezio begins the game as a young Florentine nobleman. After his family is executed, he is drawn into the Assassin conflict and gradually becomes an experienced Brotherhood leader while pursuing the people responsible for the conspiracy.

Assassin's Creed II takes Ezio through locations such as Florence, Venice, Forlì, and the Vatican City. His story continues in Brotherhood and Revelations, making him one of the few protagonists with a connected trilogy of main-series games. He should not be confused with Altaïr, the lead character of the first game, or with Desmond Miles, the modern-day character who experiences Ezio's memories through the Animus.
