The powerful First Civilization artifacts in Assassin’s Creed are called Pieces of Eden.

Pieces of Eden are advanced objects created by the Isu, the technologically sophisticated beings also called the First Civilization. Human cultures later interpreted or remembered some of these objects through religious and legendary traditions.

The Apple of Eden is the best-known example. It can manipulate human perception and behavior, although different Pieces of Eden have different functions. Other examples in the series include the Staff of Eden and the Sword of Eden.

Pieces of Eden are not the same as Assassin equipment. The Hidden Blade is a weapon associated with the Brotherhood, while the Animus is a modern device used to access genetic memories. The artifacts drive many conflicts because both Assassins and Templars seek to control them.
