Which Asian country occupies most of the Arabian Peninsula?

The story behind the answer

Which Asian country occupies most of the Arabian Peninsula? Saudi Arabia. The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia covers roughly 80 percent of the Arabian Peninsula, making it by far the peninsula’s largest country by area. It is located in West Asia, between the Red Sea and the Arabian Gulf, and forms the geographic core of the Arabian Peninsula.

Saudi Arabia’s territory includes enormous desert regions, including the Rub’ al Khali, or Empty Quarter, the world’s largest contiguous sand desert. The country also contains western mountain ranges, highlands and coastal plains. Its borders meet Jordan, Iraq, Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Oman and Yemen.

The wording “most of the peninsula” matters: Saudi Arabia does not include the entire Arabian Peninsula. Yemen and Oman occupy much of the southern and southeastern portions, while the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Kuwait and Bahrain are smaller states around the Gulf. Saudi Arabia’s position between major waterways also gives it coastlines on both the Red Sea and the Arabian Gulf.
