Which Asian country has the world's tallest building (Burj Khalifa)?
Answer
United Arab Emirates
Answer
United Arab Emirates
The United Arab Emirates is the Asian country where the world’s tallest building, the Burj Khalifa, stands. Rising 828 meters above downtown Dubai, the skyscraper became the defining landmark of the UAE’s most populous city and its global real-estate boom.
Construction began in 2004, and the building officially opened on January 4, 2010. It was originally called Burj Dubai, but the name changed to Burj Khalifa in honor of Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, then president of the United Arab Emirates. The tower was developed by Emaar Properties and designed by the Chicago-based firm Skidmore, Owings & Merrill.
The Burj Khalifa is often confused with the country that contains Dubai, since Dubai is an emirate rather than an independent nation. The correct country-level answer is therefore the UAE. Its structure combines reinforced concrete, a Y-shaped floor plan and a central buttressed core designed to withstand powerful desert winds.
