Kai Havertz scored the first goal of the 2026–27 Premier League season against Coventry City.
Havertz opened the scoring for Arsenal in the campaign’s first match at the Emirates Stadium on 21 August 2026. Arsenal went on to defeat Coventry City 3–0, with Bukayo Saka and Martin Ødegaard also scoring in the victory.
The goal gave Havertz the distinction of scoring the season’s first Premier League goal. That record belongs to the first successful strike in the opening match, rather than the first goal scored on the most heavily scheduled Saturday.
Bukayo Saka and Ødegaard are plausible alternatives because both found the net in the same game. Christos Tzolis is another possible mix-up because he played a prominent creative role for Arsenal, helping create opportunities, but Havertz was the player who scored first.
