‘Fistful of Metal’ was the debut studio album by American thrash metal band Anthrax.
Released in January 1984, the album arrived through Megaforce Records in the United States and Music for Nations internationally. It was recorded at Pyramid Sound Studios in Ithaca, New York, and produced by Carl Canedy of The Rods.
The record features vocalist Neil Turbin and bassist Dan Lilker, making it distinct within Anthrax’s later, more famous lineup. It includes songs such as ‘Metal Thrashing Mad,’ ‘Deathrider,’ and a cover of Alice Cooper’s ‘I’m Eighteen.’
A common mix-up is confusing Anthrax with the other major American thrash bands listed as options: Megadeth, Slayer, and Metallica. Those bands released important debut albums of their own, but none recorded ‘Fistful of Metal.’
