Renaissance earned Beyoncé the 2023 Grammy for Best Dance/Electronic Music Album.
Released on July 29, 2022, Renaissance is Beyoncé’s seventh studio album and the first act of a planned trilogy. Its sound draws heavily on house, disco, funk, dance-pop, and other club traditions. Beyoncé credited and sampled numerous artists and writers connected with Black and queer dance-music history.
The album includes “Break My Soul,” “Cuff It,” “Alien Superstar,” and “Virgo’s Groove.” “Break My Soul” became Beyoncé’s eighth solo Billboard Hot 100 number one and helped define the album’s emphasis on release, movement, and communal dance-floor energy.
At the 65th Annual Grammy Awards in February 2023, Renaissance won Best Dance/Electronic Music Album. The victory also contributed to Beyoncé becoming the most awarded artist in Grammy history, with 32 wins. Renaissance is sometimes confused with Cowboy Carter, the second act of the trilogy, which was released in 2024.
