Which actor portrays Stanley Hudson?

The story behind the answer

Leslie David Baker portrays Stanley Hudson in the American version of The Office.

Stanley is a sales representative at Dunder Mifflin’s Scranton branch, defined by his dry delivery, crossword puzzles, resistance to workplace enthusiasm, and frequent reminders that he would rather be left alone. Baker’s understated performance makes Stanley a memorable contrast to Michael Scott’s manic management style.

Baker won the role after auditioning while reportedly tired and irritated from traffic; that mood helped shape the character’s famously grouchy presence. Stanley became a starring cast member during the second season, and Baker appeared in 188 episodes across the series. His character also receives several softer or more comic storylines, including the episode “Did I Stutter?” and the later “Stairmageddon.”

A common mix-up is confusing Stanley’s actor with Brian Baumgartner, who plays accountant Kevin Malone, or Oscar Nuñez, who plays accountant Oscar Martinez. At the series’ end, Stanley retires to Florida, fitting his long-running wish to escape office life.
