Which actor portrays David Wallace?

The story behind the answer

Andy Buckley portrays David Wallace in the American version of The Office.

Wallace is introduced as Dunder Mifflin’s chief financial officer and corporate superior to the Scranton branch. He is more polished and restrained than Michael Scott, but he often understands Michael’s eccentricities better than expected. Wallace’s calm executive manner makes him a frequent straight man to the branch’s chaos.

Buckley’s casting carried an unusual real-world connection: before and during his acting career, he worked as a financial adviser at Merrill Lynch. That background helped him convincingly play a corporate finance executive. He appeared as Wallace from 2006 through 2013, including 37 episodes according to his biography.

Wallace loses his job after Sabre absorbs Dunder Mifflin, but later invents and sells the “Suck It” toy vacuum to the U.S. military for $20 million. He then buys Dunder Mifflin and becomes CEO. Viewers sometimes confuse Buckley with David Denman, who plays Jim’s former fiancé Roy Anderson, or with actors who portray Sabre executives.
